Vaginal preparations

Vaginal preparations are products, which are applied or inserted in the vagina to treat vaginal conditions. 
They may contain antibacterial or antifungal agents to treat infection, or they have agents such as hormones that relieve menopausal symptoms. 
Vaginal preparations are available as creams, pessaries (tablet), gels or rings.

Miscellaneous vaginal agents

Miscellaneous vaginal agents generally include products with female sex hormones (either a combination of estrogen and progestin or just estrogen). 

These agents work locally and may be absorbed systemically as well to replace low levels of hormones during menopause.

 These vaginal agents are used to treat menopausal symptoms such as vaginal dryness, itching and burning.

Estradiol Vaginal Tablets-

• It is used to treat vaginal irritation and dryness caused by change of life.

• Use this medicine as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.
• Use this medicine (estradiol vaginal tablets) at the same time of day.
• Follow how to use as you have been told by the doctor or read the package insert.
• Wash your hands before use.
• Wash your hands and applicator after use.
• There may be days when you will not take this medicine.

Estrogens (Conjugated/Equine, Topical) (ES troe jenz KON joo gate ed, EE kwine)
Brand Name: Premarin-

• It is used to prevent or lower the signs of the change of life (menopause).
  
• It is used to treat vaginal irritation and dryness.
• It may be given to you for other reasons. Talk with the doctor.
• Use this medicine (estrogens) as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.
  • Follow how to use as you have been told by the doctor or read the package insert.
  • Use this medicine at the same time of day.
  • There may be days when you will not take this medicine (estrogens).
  • Use cream vaginally.
  
  

Spermicides

Spermicide is an agent that kills spermatozoa (sperm).

Spermicide causes the sperm cell membrane to rupture, so the sperm is unable to fertilize

the egg. 

Creams, jellies, foams etc., containing chemical spermicides are used as contraceptives.

Nonoxynol 9 Film (non OKS i nole nine)
Brand Name: VCF Vaginal Contraceptive-

• It is used to prevent pregnancy.
• se this medicine as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.
• Follow how to use as you have been told by the doctor or read the package insert.
• Do not take nonoxynol 9 film by mouth. For vaginal use only. Keep out of your mouth, nose, and eyes (may burn).
• Wash your hands before and after use.
  
• Put in before you have sex as you have been told.
• If you want to douche, wait at least 6 hours after last intercourse.
• Be sure your hands are dry before you touch this medicine.

Vaginal anti-infectives

Vaginal anti-infectives are available as creams, pessaries (tablets), gels or solutions to treat either bacterial or fungal vaginal infections. 

Vaginal antifungal products are used to treat vaginal thrush. 

Antibacterial vaginal products are used for bacterial infections such as bacterial vaginosis. Other products are used to manage irritation or minor soreness.

Clotrimazole Cream, Ointment, and Solution (kloe TRIM uh zole)
Brand Name: Alevazol, Lotrimin, Mycelex

• It is used to treat fungal infections of the skin.
• It may be given to you for other reasons. Talk with the doctor.

Terconazole Vaginal Cream (ter KON a zole)

Brand Name: Terazol-

• It is used to treat vaginal infections.
• It may be given to you for other reasons. Talk with the doctor.
• Use this medicine as ordered by your doctor. Read all information given to you. Follow all instructions closely.
  • Use as you have been told, even if your signs get better.
  • Do not take terconazole vaginal cream by mouth. For vaginal use only. Keep out of your mouth, nose, and eyes (may burn).
  • Wash your hands before use.
  • Use at bedtime for best results.
  • Wash your hands and applicator after use.
